A tree with three branches (usually, a larch tree) and human bones under it is mentioned frequently in the Udihe folklore, cf. Nikolaeva et al. (2002, text 1). It is a gathering place of evil spirits who share news; the hero hides under it to overhear their conversation. The tree branches point to three directions, usually to the East, to the West and to the South, but in this text the narrator provides several different versions.
