This is a tale about a man on a quest to find his wife and the mother of his toddler son.
After his wife is called back to the sky, the man is left caring for the baby. When the baby does not stop crying for his mother, he travels around looking for her and discovers that his wife was turned into a flower hiding amongst similar flowers. He starts his search with the hope to find the right flower.
Recording: Udihe videos were recorded by Maria Tolskaya, some with participation of Elena Perekhvalskaya, in 2006 in the village Krasnyy Yar and in 2011 in the village Agzu.
Note: Similar motifs (where a person turns into an inanimate object and hides among many similar objects) can be found in Nikolaeva et al. (2002, text 10), Nikolaeva et al. (2003, text 12) and texts 26 and 29 in the present collection. This particular tale was composed by Aleksandr Pionka who modified the traditional motif.
