According to the common Tungusic belief, the souls of the evil people live in the lower world after their death (cf. Avrorin and Lebedeva 1978; Арсеньев 1995b; Simonov et al. 1998). The lower world "dekenie" (here pronounced as "dokini") is connected to the real world by a river, and the weasel gets there by diving.
