They went to the person from the rich city. They got there. They were given food to eat, they drank. Old man fox said to the person from the rich city: “We have come to demand something from you.” “Why do you demand?” “We have come to propose to your daughter, to marry.” “And to whom?” “To old man bull,” he said. “But who,” he said, “has seen what he is like. You go for a walk and I will think for a bit now.” After a long or a short he asked again. “So, what do you think?” asked the fox the person from the rich city. “I think that your task is to give bride-ransom, if you have a bride-ransom.” “What kind of bride-ransom, there is no bride-ransom, but there is money,” he said.

Fine. He lay down. The old man fell asleep. Then in the morning the young hunter woke him: “Grandfather, get up, we’ll have tea.” Oh, how shameful, he put out his face and the other was alive again, he had no scar at all. He was completely whole again. They drank tea. “You then, grandfather, prepare fire-wood and water. I, in turn,” he said, “will go hunting again.” So he set off, let him go, he went the whole day. He left in the morning and returned in the evening when it was getting dark. The other had prepared firewood and melted water. Everything was ready by the time the grandson came back. Towards evening he came back for the third time. He was carrying even more than the day before. He had killed animals, was carrying so much. They were hanging from his belt, it was all full. He carried them on his shoulders, however many animals there were–sable, squirrel. Once again they ate, drank, and the young man skinned the animals and hung them up to dry. Once again they went to bed.
