The oldest man said: “Pour money, pour money into the sack and let him go off together with the sack, together with the demon.” They poured three hats of copper money, three hats of silver money, one sack of gold money. Seven big hats of money, half a sack remained. “Go away, take it out, the demon will eat us.” They all climbed into different corners of the house and hid, but he started to crackle even more with the dry horse skin, it apparently was cursing. Maxim grabbed the sack with the money, the sack with the dry horse-skin, took it outside to the sled, threw it on and set off home, to where his house was. He went for a long or a short time and thought: “Why am I carrying the dry horse-skin, why am I taking it? I’ll take it and put it here under a tree,” he said, “there it will disappear.” He buried it under the tree, crammed it in and covered it with fir branches. He set off for home with the money sack. He came home and his poor aunt was groaning, she lay on the floor all contorted.
