Then the wood grouse flew up and came to the heavenly father, that’s how it was. “The girls who gathered berries,” it said, “ate all of my seven nestlings. What am I to do?” Then the heavenly father turned to it: “How so?” He then made a wind: “Let everybody in the middle of the Ob die.” The seven girt down in the boot and got ready to push off. It was quiet, a stillness prevailed. They went as far as the middle of the Ob, sat down in the boat and got ready to push off. It was quiet, a stillness prevailed. They got as far as the middle of the Ob and then a strong wind arose and they all died. The wood grouse was happy and content and went along the path with songs and tales. The girls had all died.

Ivanushka stayed home. Ivanushka’s brothers left, but he took another of his horses and also set out after them. Oh, people were lined up all along the road. The girl was checking them all to see who had the ring. When she came to Ivanushka, he was filthy all over. She came up to him, his fingers were visible. His bride unrolled the bad rags and all over there was a white brilliance. Then she said: “This was my bridegroom.” Then he was ordered to the tsar and his mouth was dribbling. The tsar said: “Well fine, let him be it.” First, the tsar ordered him to be seated at the table, then gave him clothes and furs, he was seated next to the tsar’s daughter, his finger was gleaming, made a gleam. Then they started to live with the tsar, with the tsar’s children, they are probably still living together.

Now I will tell a short tale. My tale is not long, its name is Vajnin. The Vajnin woman once lived all by herself. She had no one. Once she went to the forest. While going to the forest, she lost the way and became completely lost. So she went on and on and on, she went for a long or a short time and was completely exhausted. She decided to rest, found a stump and rested her back on it. She leaned against it and broke the rotten stump. She broke it and looked through a hole. Oh! Por women were talking to each other there, there were so many of them under the earth, so many. She became frightened and wanted to run away. The Por woman jumped out and said: “You broke my house.” She said: “I didn’t want to break it, what should I do, I was very tired. I was tired, really tired,” she said. The other woman said: “Then we’ll go together, you broke my house.” She talked, the Vajnin woman said: “Fine, let’s go together.

And now the father came from the forest. He had wandered far, across two rivers, he came from the Supteng river, from the Kasam swamp, from Kazymys. The father came to look for the elder son. The poor mother was there. The tiger wanted to eat her and the wolf wanted to eat her. The father came home. Halfway there, when he crossed the river, another squirrel was sitting. The other squirrel was sitting and was crying, crying like this: “My home,” he said, “was carried away by the crow or was carried away by the owl. Now I have no home.” Then the husband of the squirrel coming from there, coming from the Kasam River said: “How can you not have one? You have to live, I had a wife and she had to bear a lot of children earlier. Maybe the wolf ate them, too, maybe the owl ate them.” This owl that disturbs people is still alive now and it is a bad bird. “Probably it ate them.”
