It grew large and one day he went to his father and mother and said: “You poor things live without eating anything, but I have a herd in the forest” “My God why do you have a herd? Your grandfather had none earlier. I had none. Where did you get it from?” He said? “Mother, father, I will go to the forest and will bring home a calf.” The youth went, snatched a calf and brought it home. He showed it to his father and mother and said: “Father, mother skin it and we’ll eat it.” Then his father and mother said: “Why did you kill it? Had you not killed it, we would have taken it to the tsar. Perhaps he would have given us a good place to live.” Then he said: “Mama, don’t be worried, I have a herd in the forest.” They ate that animal. The youth grew strong, he was already big.

Suddenly Kuropatka came. Kuropatka came and said: “Well, did you kill your wife?” He said: I killed my wife, now clean the house.” Kuropatka flew to the top of the tree, to the top of the birch and said: “I won’t clean your house, even if you have killed your wife. When the new earth, the grassy earth appears again, let none of you devils be here.” The demon took his bow and wanted to kill Kuropatka. By the time he found a bow and arrow Kuropatka had flown off. He flew through seven glades and the demon remained there with empty hands.

And now the father came from the forest. He had wandered far, across two rivers, he came from the Supteng river, from the Kasam swamp, from Kazymys. The father came to look for the elder son. The poor mother was there. The tiger wanted to eat her and the wolf wanted to eat her. The father came home. Halfway there, when he crossed the river, another squirrel was sitting. The other squirrel was sitting and was crying, crying like this: “My home,” he said, “was carried away by the crow or was carried away by the owl. Now I have no home.” Then the husband of the squirrel coming from there, coming from the Kasam River said: “How can you not have one? You have to live, I had a wife and she had to bear a lot of children earlier. Maybe the wolf ate them, too, maybe the owl ate them.” This owl that disturbs people is still alive now and it is a bad bird. “Probably it ate them.”
