The man from the rich city went home, gave the order to his people, his soldiers. They brought the cannon and shot at the larch tree. Near to a wooded lake there stood a grey tent. A wife lived there with her husband. Once, after a long or a short time, the wife said to her husband; “Old man, go to town.” The old man said: “Go yourself.” The wife said: “You go.” After a long or a short time the wife set off for town with the din of thunder, with the din of a gun. After his wife left, the old man waited at home and sat at the table. Suddenly the din of a gun, the din of thunder could be heard. He went outside and in the middle of the big lake three white swans were sitting. Three white swans were sitting, the old man came home and sat down at the table.

His belt was hung with animals, he had killed so many. “Oh, grandfather,” he said. “You’ve come, greetings!” “Greetings.” They greeted each other, had something to eat and the hunter skinned his animals and hung up their skins. They ate and drank. He lay down. The old man pretended to sleep. He thought: “He killed animals all day long, he was hunting, he has fallen asleep and is snoring.” The old man thought: “If I were to kill this young hunter, these animal skins would remain for me. I would take them home to my wife. I will bring so many skins, my wife will have good words for me.”

He went along and then came to some sort of place, there was a little house. There was a little house, he opened the door and looked, an old woman was lying there. Suddenly he could hear an old man coming from somewhere. He could hear him tearing trees out by their roots. Suddenly a demon appeared. He appeared there and he said to the old man: “I have killed many animals and you will not get rid of me.”
